Business Coaching vs Consulting
One of the biggest myth’s in the coaching industry today, is that coaching is just a trendy name for consulting. Not so! Coaching and consulting are very different disciplines.
When you hire a consultant to come into your business – they are there to perform a specific task or duty. A consultant is a specialist in a specific field. Hiring a consultant is beneficial for a business because they pay a set fee for a task or project – usually on delivery. For many businesses who are unable to afford specialty skills inhouse – then they can go to a consultant with a specific field of expertise and hire them to complete a specific project. When a consultant leaves a business – they take the expertise with them.
A coach is a business generalist. They look at the business from a helicopter viewpoint and help the owner recognize areas of exposure and areas of improvement. They make sure the owner has clarity on what they want to achieve from the business. This in itself can be very individualized. For instance an owner may want to open another outlet or store, they may want to build their business to sell it, they may want to have a lifestyle where the only come into the business once a week and so on.
