Trends in coaching
The origins of professional coaching is hard to track. In the book The Complete Guide to Coaching at Work by Perry Zeus, Suzanne Skiffington – life skills coaching can be traced back to the 1960’s while references to coaching in business can be found in the 1980’s.
While peer to peer mentoring existed in companies where they wanted to assist in knowledge transfer and productivity, the industry itself really did not develop until the early nineties. Life Coaching developed around the same time. The first business coaching company ActionCoach (then known as Action International) started in 1993.
Today professional coaching has spun off into many arenas. You can find a coach in almost all areas of your life you need help.
Need help to get healthy – you can find a Wellness Coach. Need to learn another language – you can get help with your Language Coach. Perhaps you want to learn t eat better – hire a Nutrition Coach. Find yourself alone on a Saturday night – hire a Dating Coach. The list goes on and on.
By far the biggest trends in coaching is in business, executive and life coaching.
